Fourth time's a (long-awaited) charm.

The slow cooker has been quite the puzzling addition to the Woo family.

Mrs. Woo has twice attempted pork and once beef. Mr. Woo has graciously eaten every last bit of each meal, but his wife is fully aware that the meat and veggies were extremely dry and salty, respectively. She had used soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and water for the liquid that covered the contents. She is quite upset about the wasted ingredients, time, and money.

But then(!) Mrs. Woo made a couple changes:
(1) She used drumsticks.
(2) She placed all the veggies at the bottom, and the meat resting on top.
(3) The meat was not submerged in the liquid.
(4) She cooked it on high for 1 hour, then 11 more on low.
(5) She made strict restrictions to not let the lid be even the slightest bit ajar.

Results: Beautifully tender chicken and just-the-right-amount-of-flavor veggies!

What say you now, slow-cooker! You WILL submit!

Looking like a family

After Easter service, Cy and I decided to go watch "Monsters Vs. Aliens" in 3D. We also decided to take Fred and Leland.

Cy and I were walking hand in hand. Fred carrying the cajon and Leland next to him. The four of us were walking linear down Sproul (enter memories of colorful flyers popping my personal bubble space) when Andy walks by and says, "Haha, you guys look like a family!" How funny. I guess we look like it.

Then, we cross Bancroft and Leland announces that he wants Jamba Juice. So we bought him the Strawberry Whirl and split it into 2 cups; I took the other. He's happy and we're on our merry way.

We find our seats and put on our spiffy 3D glasses and Leland proceeds to narrate about the various preview previews (the ones that repeatedly tell us to turn off our cell phones and go out and buy popcorn) and even entertains us with his rendition of the Star Wars soundtrack.

After, we ask if he enjoyed the movie; he did. And it hit me - this is exactly what we would do if we had brought our own kid to watch a movie. Wow, I feel so grown-up.

Fred and Leland, you're always welcome to the Woo Family. :)

I even baked chocolate cupcakes and sang Happy Birthday to Fred when he came over for dinner, only to find out that I was 7 days early... This was the same weekend that I had the sub send home a flyer that was supposed to go home the following week and my anticipation of meeting with a sister which was also the next weekend... -_- No brain once you're married.

What a gangster do

An episode with Mrs. Woo waiting with her students for parent pick up...

Student #1: Mrs. Woo, he touched my mouth. Mrs. Woo, he slapped me in the library.
Student #2 looking smug.
Student #1: (Facing Student #2) You shouldn't slap. It's not offfff Gooood.
Student #3: Oh! That's what a gangster do!

On another note, I have twins in my class, and their birthday is today! How great is that for an April Fool's joke to their parents. :D

Sons and daughters

A sweet episode in Mrs. Woo's class...

Assignment: Color your fraction strips, cut them out, write your initials on each piece.

About 10 minute into the time a group of students begin a conversation about CCS and when they might be leaving the school for various reasons...

Student #1: I wish I had you in Kindergarten, and then like that.
Student #2: I wish I had you all the years I was here.
Mrs. Woo: You wish you had me every year???
Chorus of students: Yeah!
Mrs. Woo: Awww! But no, that's too much work for me.
Student #3: I wish I was your son. Then I could see you everyday!
Mrs. Woo: ahahaha
Student #4: Aw, I want to be your daughter!
Student #2: Me too.
Mrs. Woo: You guys are funny... Do your work!
Student #3: Are you and Mr. Woo going to have babies?
Student #5: You should name the baby Citrus Woo! ahaha
Mrs. Woo: Do your work!

Then Student #2 comes up to my desk with a big grin and is hopping up and down, excited about something...
Student #3: Youmaiiashhsafobebayis
Mrs. Woo: What?
Student #3: You might have babies! And then I get to see it!

ahahahahahah Maybe you need to know the background of this student so let me fill you in - he's the mob boss type. He's the one that students ask if they're allowed to play. He's also the one who always wants to return neglected sweaters to their rightful owners. Why he's so into babies right now, I have no idea but it's awfully cute. :)

Pictured with Student #4
(who was very eager to take this pic)

Now the munchkins are talking about beta fish laying eggs and dog years as they color and cut.

That's so precious

Mr. Woo has been filming his Bible group for a Chapel presentation (It's looking pretty good!). Towards the end, he turned the table and allowed his students to interview him. Nearby where other students. Student #1 is one of his 6th grade students. Student #2 is one of the first graders that were watching.

Student #1: Are you a sinner?
Mr. Woo: Yes, I've done many bad things.
Student #1: Um, um, um, what do you think about Mrs. Woo?
Mr. Woo: I think she's the most beautiful woman in the world.
Student #2: aaHaHAAHaha That's so precious!!! aAHahahAHaHa That's so precious!!!

I do NOT like clowns...

An episode in Mrs. Woo's class as they are lining up to be dismissed...

Student: Mrs. Woo, you're nose is red.
Mrs. Woo: I know, [insert student's name].
Student: You're a clown! Honk! Honk!
Mrs. Woo: -_-

I know I care for my students when I intentionally miss an opportunity to stay at home and sleep off a runny nose and actually come to school to greet their (mischievous) smiling faces.

Penmenship vs. penBOYship

[Students working on this week's writing assignment]

Student: Mrs. Woo, look! I accidently made the "r" too long...
Mrs. Woo: -_-

Note: The original word was "party." His word "panty."
